  • I created a lowercase font called Roundabout. I created three versions of the font. One version is sans-serif, one is a serif font, and one has less serifs for lighter overall typographical color. I wanted the font to be symmetrical, with perfectly round counters and bowls. I created an unusual serif to add to the letterforms to create a fun and bold look. I did some major experimentation with the letterforms ‘t’, ‘w’, ‘z’, and ‘s’. These particular letterforms were the most challenging for me to create and integrate into the rest of the alphabet.

  • This is my Tobacco font. I was asked to create a font design based on societal themes. I chose tobacco as my theme, and created a long and thin font, utilizing a high x-axis to mimic the shape of a cigarette (including the filter and stem). I created the letterforms, before shaping them with actual tobacco leaves. Once I shaped them, I photographed the letters and traced them in Illustrator, manipulated them, and gave them a tobacco tint. I then created a tee design advertising a slogan from 'Kick Butts Day 2014'. The shirt depicts a timeline that shares the rate of smoking over time.

  • I was asked to create a font based on a disability. I chose epilepsy, due to my own personal experiences with the disease. When I imagine the trigger causes of epilepsy, the first things I picture are strobe lights. I decided to create a gradient-based font that would capture the essence of light in motion. I tried to retain accuracy of direction and consistency of shape as I designed this full alphabet typeface. Introducing Strobe font:

  • The following design is an 11x17 print poster, created to demonstrate the uses of Strobe font. The poster focuses on Epilepsy awareness, and encourages viewers to be aware of the triggers and effects of Epilepsy, in order to make people more conscious of their decisions that could affect victims of epilepsy.

  • In this text exercise, I used a typeface called 'Mensch' to create a square-like composition in which I played with rotated letterforms and their sizes, as well as their angle on the grid. I wanted the composition to reflect the work or style of Saul Bass in some way, rather than focusing on the meaning behind the quote. I also wanted the words to be playful and appear hand rendered, even though the composition was created digitally. The end result reminds me somewhat of the style of Chipotle Mexican Grill's promotional graphics and packaging designs.

  • I created 2x2 inch drawn squares, in which I drew parts of letterforms in order to better understand font design and the letterforms themselves.

  • This numerical font design was inspired by paisley patterns. I digitally created my own numbers and paisley icon and used repetition and careful placement to create this numerical paisley font. Enjoy!

  • For this next assignment, I was to trace/draw a repeated letterform over and over again using different fonts in order to better understand the complexities of font design and to become more familiar with the letterforms themselves.

  • I was asked to create my name in graffiti form, beginning with sketches until I found a pattern within the illustrated letterforms that created a uniform font.

  • These are my initial sketches for my graffiti font.
